Endemic to the rocky reef zones of Lake Malawi—particularly around Pombo Rocks—this species is specialized for life within dense rock structures and exhibits strong site attachment and dominance hierarchies.

Body patterning consists of alternating electric blue and deep black vertical bars extending uniformly from head to caudal peduncle.
